Let me share something personal—a lesson learned through years of struggle, self-deception, and finally, transformation. Investing in yourself is the single most important decision you’ll ever make. It’s the key to unlocking your true potential, the path to becoming the best version of yourself. But here’s the thing: it’s not easy. And gues what – It’s not supposed to be.
Investing in yourself is a commitment to doing the hard work, even when no one’s watching, even when every fiber of your being wants to quit. And trust me, I know this firsthand.
My Story: From Blame to Ownership
In my career, I achieved great success on paper, but something was always off. I blamed everyone else—my colleagues, my environment, even my circumstances—for the dissatisfaction I felt. The harsh reality? It was me all along. I lacked the drive, grit, fortitude, resilience, and confidence to truly do the work that was required, especially when things got tough.
I wasn’t stacking wins day after day. I wasn’t allowing my hard work to compound into meaningful results. Instead, I was selling myself a pile of BS, convinced that it was okay to coast, to hide behind bigger clothes, and to remain comfortable in my own discomfort.
That was my life until April 2023. Everything changed when I saw my brother transform his entire life through consistent diet and exercise. His dedication inspired me, but even then, it took time. I spent months saying I was going to change. It took the 6 months leading up until April to actually start doing the work. I began working out 3-4 days a week and tracking my food intake. It wasn’t glamorous, and the results didn’t come overnight, but I kept at it.
I kept investing in myself, day after day.
By August, I had lost nearly 30 pounds, and for the first time in years, I felt incredible. But the old habits—the self-doubt, the excuses—started creeping back in. I realized that if I stopped investing in myself, I’d slip right back to where I started. So, I dug deep. I joined the 1st Phorm App, got matched up with an awesome coach and found a community where I felt like I belongs.
Next thing I did -immersed myself in the work. The hard mental work that I knew it would take to overcome nearly 35 years of societal pressure. I discovered Andy Frisella and his MFCEO Project Podcast, and it all made sense. I realized that I had falled in love with the grind – the fit body was nice (and yes, I still have a LOT of work to do), but the journey to get there, that is what fired me up.
Now, I’m down over 50 pounds and lost nearly 20% body fat. But more importantly, I’ve transformed my mind.
I’m ready to tackle each day, to win it, and to learn from my failures. I’m no longer letting society or social expectations dictate how I live.
Instead, I’ve taken the reins, and building a life I’m proud of—a life I’ve earned.
Why Investing in Yourself Matters
Here’s the truth: investing in yourself isn’t just about getting fit or achieving career success. It’s about building the foundation for everything you want to accomplish in life. It’s about taking ownership of your future and refusing to settle for anything less than your best.
1. Ownership Over Excuses:
The first step in investing in yourself is taking ownership of your choices. It’s easy to blame others, to point fingers, and to find excuses for why things aren’t going your way. But until you take responsibility for where you are, you’ll never be able to change it.
2. Consistency Over Comfort:
Investing in yourself means showing up every day, even when it’s hard, even when you don’t see immediate results. It’s about embracing the discomfort, knowing that every small step forward is a building block toward something greater.
3. Grit Over Giving Up:
There will be days when you want to quit, when the grind feels like too much. But those are the days that matter the most. It’s in those moments that you build grit, resilience, confidence, and the strength to keep going. It’s in those moments that your investment in yourself starts to pay dividends.
4. Mindset Over Mediocrity:
Transforming your body is one thing, but the real transformation happens in your mind. When you invest in yourself, you’re not just changing how you look—you’re changing how you think, how you approach challenges, and how you live your life. That’s when the opportunitites become limitless.
